The story behind the artwork

"Walls and All" is my indigenous artwork, exploring the struggle of vulnerability and the delicate balance of keeping emotional walls intact. As a bright and extroverted individual, I struggle with opening up while maintaining a cautious approach to who I let into my inner world. Inspired by the geometric and vibrant grunge aesthetic of the 90s, I've infused this style into the artwork, creating a visually captivating piece that exudes nostalgia.
Through "Walls and All," I aim to pay tribute to those who, like me, face difficulties with vulnerability. It serves as an ode to individuals who radiate positivity and liveliness but struggle to let their guard down. I believe that vulnerability is a precious gift, both terrifying and empowering. I warmly encourage viewers to embrace their own vulnerabilities, inviting them to open up and share their true selves with the world. Remember, any judgment that may come from others should be seen as a reflection of their biases, not your own worth.
"Walls and All" invites viewers to reflect on their own emotional barriers and the courage it takes to dismantle them. Beyond those walls lies the potential for deep and meaningful connections. With its vibrant colours and nostalgic undertones, my artwork visually captures the intricate dance between self-preservation and the yearning for genuine human connection.

Meet Alejandro Lauren

I’m Alejandro Lauren, also known as Wayde Clarke. Alejandro is my alter ego—a part of me that allows me to be loud and proud. I created them to break out of my comfort zone, to step into a space where I can truly shine, pushing past my own boundaries and embracing the fabulous person we all are.

My art is deeply tied to the human experience and emotion. I believe that the one thing that connects us all is how we navigate life’s challenges—how we cope, manage, and share our stories. Through my work, I’ve learned to embrace vulnerability, sharing my own experiences and stories in the hope that others might see themselves reflected in my art. I want my work to help people connect, relate, and even heal, just as it has done for me.

Each piece is a journey of colour, emotion, and meaning, celebrating life, culture, and the power of human connection. I invite you to explore my art, and I hope it resonates with you on a personal level.
