The story behind the artwork
Introducing my latest work: “Lesbian Pride”
This vibrant piece honours the strength, love, and resilience of lesbians within the LGBTQIA+ community. “Lesbian Pride” is a celebration not only of identity but also of the tremendous care and support lesbians have provided, especially during the AIDS epidemic, where they were a critical force of compassion and solidarity.
At the heart of the artwork is the red ribbon, a powerful symbol of AIDS awareness, woven into the colours of the Lesbian Pride Flag. The red ribbon stands central, representing the love and care lesbians gave during a time of great need, contributing so much to the community’s survival and well-being.
The swirling patterns of purple, orange, and red flow together, capturing the vibrancy and diversity of the lesbian community. Each meeting place, journey line, and symbol woven throughout the artwork represents the stories, struggles, and triumphs of lesbians who have paved the way for love, acceptance, and progress.

Meet Alejandro Lauren
I’m Alejandro Lauren, also known as Wayde Clarke. Alejandro is my alter ego—a part of me that allows me to be loud and proud. I created them to break out of my comfort zone, to step into a space where I can truly shine, pushing past my own boundaries and embracing the fabulous person we all are.
My art is deeply tied to the human experience and emotion. I believe that the one thing that connects us all is how we navigate life’s challenges—how we cope, manage, and share our stories. Through my work, I’ve learned to embrace vulnerability, sharing my own experiences and stories in the hope that others might see themselves reflected in my art. I want my work to help people connect, relate, and even heal, just as it has done for me.
