The story behind the artwork

The artwork "Native Flowers" is a heartfelt celebration of the abundant and vibrant beauty found within Australia's unique flora. At the very heart of the piece are two iconic Australian native species, the Golden Wattle and the Waratah, thoughtfully chosen for their deep symbolic meaning and striking visual impact.

The Golden Wattle, Australia's cherished national flower, radiates warmth and optimism through its bright golden blossoms. Blooming magnificently between August and September, this flower symbolises unity, resilience, and renewal qualities deeply woven into the fabric of Australia's identity.

Beside the Golden Wattle blooms the vivid Waratah, the floral emblem of New South Wales, instantly recognisable by its bold crimson hues. Exclusively flourishing in Australia's southeastern regions, the Waratah embodies passion, strength, and the rich biodiversity of its natural habitat.

Surrounding these central figures, the artwork unfolds into an intricate tapestry of native flowers and plants traditionally used by Australia's First Nations ancestors for food and medicine, widely known as "Bush Tucker." Each delicate petal, leaf, and seed in the artwork honours this ancient knowledge and pays homage to the longstanding relationship between Australia's Indigenous peoples and the land.

The meticulous arrangement of colours, textures, and shapes within the artwork not only highlights the artist’s profound connection to NSW but also underscores their respect for and appreciation of Australia's rich botanical heritage. By skilfully intertwining artistic creativity with cultural significance, this piece authentically captures and celebrates the timeless beauty and invaluable heritage of Australia's native flora.

Alejandro Lauren

I’m Alejandro Lauren, also known as Wayde Clarke. Alejandro is my alter ego a part of me that allows me to be loud and proud. I created them to break out of my comfort zone, to step into a space where I can truly shine, pushing past my own boundaries and embracing the fabulous person we all are.

My art is deeply tied to the human experience and emotion. I believe that the one thing that connects us all is how we navigate life’s challenges how we cope, manage, and share our stories. Through my work, I’ve learned to embrace vulnerability, sharing my own experiences and stories in the hope that others might see themselves reflected in my art. I want my work to help people connect, relate, and even heal, just as it has done for me.

Each piece is a journey of colour, emotion, and meaning, celebrating life, culture, and the power of human connection. I invite you to explore my art, and I hope it resonates with you on a personal level.

Thank you for stopping by, and I hope my work brings you as much healing and inspiration as it has brought me.
