Australian Art | Newcastle Baths | Art Print
I drew this printed digitally, this was inspired by one of the most famous locations where I live. The Newcastle Ocean Baths. I have used a palette of different colours allowing me to create this magical sunset.
The baths pavilion was designed in 1922 by the prolific local architect F G Castelden. The ocean baths are a significant heritage asset that are free and open year round.
The Newcastle Ocean Baths are an icon - standing alone on a wave cut rock platform dominating the city's coastline. The Art Deco - stripped classical bathing paviliion sets an appropriate stage for the pursuit of bathing and swimming; in a city uniquely nestled between harbour and sea. The central tower of the pavilion is a study in the Art Deco movement while the baths themselves have been skillfully formed from a wave cut rock platform. The complex is a significant reminder of the value placed on recreational bathing by our city's residents and visitors.
The Ocean Baths are believed to be the only example of a bathing pavilion in the stripped classical style with flourishes of the Art Deco style.
